Yeongbo Punghyang Festival
Yeongbo is the place with beautiful mountains and clear waters where many smart scholars and voluntary resistance patriotics were born. To memory the spirit of Hyeongjebong Independent Demonstration, the symbolic resistance of the region against Japanese Empire in May, 1931, the Korean traditional music festival is performed to respect and comfort seniors and other families from the resistance families.

May 5 is designated as the Day of Yeongbo to re-recognize the demonstration resulted imprisonments of 71 patriotics in Mokpo Prison and 30 patriotics in Daegu Prison, to preserve and continue of Yeongbo's traditions and to make an occasion to unify the people while providing a homecoming chance for the people moved to various other places for their jobs. For the purpose of the special day, Yeongbo Punghyang Festival was started in 1979 and this year was the 35th anniversary. Also, this festival was selected in Korea's 100 Cultural Festivals by KBS and listed in Korean People Culture Encyclopedia (published by The Academy of Korean Studies) confirming its position as an important regional folk festival.
